Dear 30+ women, there is nothing wrong with having fibroid!

By Ighomor Onome Joyce

My uncle’s Neighbour has a younger sister who is down with stage four Chronic Kidney disease.

She has been ill for almost a year. It started six years ago when she was told she had fibroid in a medical hospital.

Instead of maybe operating the fibroid, she decided to seek the help of a herbalist in Port Harcourt.

She started the fertility treatment and after some years she fell sick. When it started, she thought she was pregnant because she could not eat, she was spiting, vomiting and all that, but all pregnancy test kits she used at home were negative.

When she didn’t get better, she went to the hospital and was told she had stage four Chronic kidney disease.

Her husband dumped her at her elder sister’s house and abandoned her there.

She is getting better but at stage 4, there is no going back. Her kidneys are gone.

She was discharged from the hospital about a month ago, her feet are badly swollen, and she is coughing seriously. I asked her if she was diabetic or hypertensive, she said no.

The Nephrologist told her herbs triggered it. I feel like the activities of these herbalists should be regulated and monitored.

She does not fully understand what’s happening to her yet.

She knows it’s kidney disease but doesn’t understand that the spit, cough and swollen feet are signs of fluid retention.

She doesn’t understand how to read her EUCr result, doesn’t know the normal range, so she can’t even read her results by herself to know if she is improving medically or not.

Dear 30+ women, there is nothing wrong with having fibroid. If it is causing problems and you have the funds, please operate it. Don’t go taking herbs.

A man that loves you will stay with you even without kids. If he wants to marry another wife, he will do so even if you have ten kids. Don’t go risking your lives because you want to please anyone.

We have only one life to live, let’s not leave it with regrets according to Mohbad the late Nigerian musician.

Stop taking herbs.
